Why go through the stress cooking when you could just eat out!!!

I'll tell you why! Truth be told, we all love to eat out, some also wish we could cook once in a while. As a college student I really love to eat out because of the variety that is being given with little or no stress involved. But carefully weighing the pro and cons involved in eating out and eating homemade meals, I made a decision that I really do not regret. If you've ever thought about this, or feel like you are in the same situation, you just got to the right place, welcome on board.

SAVES MONEY

Eating homemade meals simply means cooking. Its generally cheaper to cook at home than eating out. For instance, if $25 is being spent on food everyday (which we know is very easy to do), for a month that will be about $700. While grocery shopping for a month could cost about $300. The extra $400 could be used for other necessities.

Fortunately for the UMass Boston student, the cost of $300 for grocery shopping can be reduced by a lot! All we have to do is to register to the U_ACCESS food pantry, that way we get free food, that way you spend a lot less at the grocery store!

FOOD SAFETY

This is a very necessary factor that needs to be considered. Quite a number of people are allergic to one thing or the other, and the chances of eating what you are allergic to is quite high while eating out. Eating homemade meals that you prepare your self reduces the chances of having an allergy attack, this is because you are in charge of the ingredients. Also a very important factor is that you know the perfect portion of food you need to take, and you also have the liberty to always go back to the pot to get more if you have leftover, this way you don't overeat and can have leftovers too!

Encourages family bonding.

Definitely when everyone is at the dining table, the family or roommate family is bonding no matter if the food is made at home, or from eating out, but imagine if this time shared was tripled. The preparation of the meal, cutting, frying, boiling, grilling, or any form of cooking helps in bonding because you creating something together. During this time frame, the family gets to talk, learn new things, and bond even more than just over eating the meal.

STAY ALIVE!!!

This is the most important part we all need to remember. as much as cooking homemade food maybe cheaper and all the other goodess that come with it, YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO COOK.

My dear not because you cook the food that makes it healthy or good for you in anyway. On the brighter note, they are many ways you could learn how to cook if you are willing to. So get up and go do something about your cooking skills. University Health Services offers some healthy and easy recipes. Check them out here! And for some cooking hack, click here! One last thing...we are also putting together a UMass Boston cookbook, created by YOUR contributions. Share your favorite recipe and learn from your peers. If you contribute (here), you will be invited to a fancy potluck next semester :)
